Mepal & Sutton FC is incredibly proud to have been named Cambridgeshire FA Grassroots Club of the Year 2026.
Club representatives attended the Cambridgeshire FA Grassroots Awards Evening on Wednesday 23 September, joining clubs and volunteers from across the county to celebrate the people who make grassroots football possible.
Having arrived at the evening simply proud to have been shortlisted, hearing Mepal & Sutton FC announced as Grassroots Club of the Year was a very special moment for everyone connected with the club.
CAMBRIDGESHIRE FA GRASSROOTS CLUB OF THE YEAR 2026
The award recognises far more than results on the pitch. It reflects the work taking place across the whole club — from our youngest players and youth teams through to adult football — and the enormous contribution made by the people who give their time to keep Mepal & Sutton FC moving forward.
The 2025/26 season brought plenty to celebrate, including success across our adult teams and continued development throughout our youth section. But the thing we are most proud of is continuing to provide an enjoyable, inclusive and positive football environment where players can develop, make friends and feel part of a club and community.
AN AWARD THAT MEANS EVEN MORE
This recognition feels particularly special after what has at times been a challenging year for those volunteering behind the scenes. Through significant change and additional pressures, our volunteers have continued to give their time, energy and commitment to make sure football remains available for our players and our community.
To come through those challenges together and receive this recognition from Cambridgeshire FA makes the award mean even more. It is a reminder of what can be achieved when people pull together with the long-term interests of the club and its players at heart.
THIS AWARD BELONGS TO EVERYONE
No club succeeds because of one person or one team. This award belongs to everyone who contributes to Mepal & Sutton FC.
To our players, thank you for representing the club with pride. To our coaches and managers, thank you for the countless hours you give to your teams. To our committee members and volunteers, thank you for everything that happens behind the scenes to make football possible each week.
To our parents and families, thank you for the travelling, encouragement, volunteering and support from the touchline. To our sponsors, local partners and supporters, thank you for backing grassroots football and helping us continue to provide opportunities across the club.
We would also like to thank Cambridgeshire FA for this tremendous recognition and for its continued support of grassroots football across the county. We are also hugely grateful to our sponsors and community partners, whose support plays such an important part in the club. We will be proudly displaying the Grassroots Club of the Year trophy at the Sutton Royal British Legion Club, one of our valued club sponsors and a fantastic supporter of Mepal & Sutton FC.
Most of all, thank you to every person who has played a part in the Mepal & Sutton FC story. This award belongs to all of you.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
Awards like this are only possible because people from our community step forward and give their time. As we look to the future, we need more people to get involved and help us continue providing opportunities for local children.
We are currently looking for someone to help lead our Mini Strikers, introducing Reception and Year 1 children to football and helping us build the next generation of Mepal & Sutton FC players.
We are also looking for a coach to help establish our new Under 8s team, giving another group of young players the opportunity to continue their football journey with the club.
You don’t have to have been involved with the club for years to make a difference. If you have enthusiasm, some time to give and would like to help local grassroots football thrive, we’d love to hear from you.
Could you be the person who helps create our next team?
FOOTBALL AT THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY
We are enormously proud to be Cambridgeshire FA Grassroots Club of the Year 2026, but the award is also encouragement to keep building for the future — creating a sustainable club, supporting our volunteers and providing football for children, young people and adults for many years to come.
